Fruit Pie Freezing Helpful Hints

For Successful Fruit Pie Freezing

Stockpile your freezer with homemade fruit pies. Follow these freezing fruit pie guidelines:

Prepare double-crust pie as usual, treating light colored fruits with limon juice or ascorbic acid color keeper to keep fresh fruit from turning brown.

DO NOT CUT SLITS IN THE TOP CRUST OF UNBAKED FRUIT PIES BEFORE FREEZING.

To protect crimped pie crust edges you can wrap a cord board collar around pie or covering top crust with a heavy paper plate. Wrap with plastic wrap and then foil, seal tightly. Label and freeze. Use frozen fruit pies within 2 months.

Baking directions for unbaked frozen fruit pies.

Pre heat oven to 375 degrees. Unwrap, slit top crust with 4 - one inch slits. Bake for 50 to 60 minutes or until it's hot and bubbly, cover crust edges with foil to prevent over browning.

To shorten frozen pie baking time. Frozen pie needs to be in a non-metal pie plate. Microwave pie till filling is hot and the fruit is cooked, about 8 to 12 minutes. Place pie in a pre headed oven at 370 degrees. Bake till crust is golden brown about 10 to 15 minutes.
